At Starting Line Counseling and Consulting, I believe in being transparent about financial policies. Discussing finances in the context of mental health can be complicated, so I've made it our priority to be upfront and direct.

As outlined in the financial agreement, the card on file will be charged at the start of each session to take care of your balance, including fees for late cancellations and missed appointments. Unexpected circumstances can arise, missed appointments and late cancellations not only impact Starting Line Counseling and Consulting financially, but also means an opportunity was missed to help another client during that same time.

Why Cash pay?

  • Cash pay services allow for more flexibility and control over treatment decisions, without being subject to insurance limitations or requirements.

  • Insurance companies often impose strict criteria for diagnoses and treatment, which can lead to clinicians being forced to use standardized or brief treatment approaches that may not be optimal for a particular client.

  • Cash pay services can provide more privacy and confidentiality for clients, since insurance companies often require a diagnosis and other personal information to be shared in order to approve treatment.

  • Cash pay services may be more cost-effective for clients who don't have insurance or who have high-deductible plans, since they can often negotiate lower rates and avoid costly copays or coinsurance payments.

  • Cash pay services can allow for more continuity of care, since clients don't have to switch providers or treatment settings if their insurance changes or coverage is terminated.

  • Avoiding potential insurance issues: Receiving a mental health diagnosis through insurance may potentially impact eligibility for life insurance or result in higher premiums.

At Starting Line Counseling, a super-bill is provided at the end of each month. This is a document that contains all the necessary information about the therapy services you have received, including the date, type of service, and the amount charged. It also includes the therapist's credentials and the appropriate diagnostic codes. The superbill is a useful tool for clients who are paying out of pocket for therapy services, as it allows them to submit the bill to their insurance company for a partial refund on services. With a superbill, clients can obtain reimbursement directly from their insurance company, as long as their insurance policy covers mental health services.
